EXAM INFORMATION
The F=ma exam will be administered via an online platform, a printable exam will not be available. Students will need to bring a computer or tablet with access to the internet.
All students who are registering with iTalented will take the contest in the same classroom at the same time under the supervision of a proctor from iTalented nonprofit organization.
Students must be either U.S. citizens, legal permanent residents of the United States (green card holders), or currently attending a U.S. school to participate in the F=ma exam.
Students must be either U.S. citizens, or legal permanent residents of the United States (green card holders), to take the USAPhO exam.
Spots are very limited—first come, first served. Payment is required to secure a spot.
REGISTRATION DEADLINE IS JANUARY 18, 2026 for registering the contest with iTalented Nonprofit Organization.
If the space is filled up before the deadline, we will close the registration.

What is the F=ma contest?
A: The F=ma competition is the first-stage exam for the U.S. Physics Team selection process, run by the American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT) featuring 25 challenging multiple-choice mechanics problems taken by thousands of high school students annually, with top scorers advancing to the USAPhO exam for a chance to make the international team. It tests conceptual understanding and problem-solving skills in mechanics, often requiring creative solutions beyond basic AP Physics, with calculus being helpful but not required.
What is the scope of the F=ma exam?
A: The F=ma exam focuses on mechanics, including kinematics, statics, Newton’s laws, momentum and energy, oscillations, orbital mechanics, fluids, and elementary data analysis. All problems can be solved without the use of calculus, though some may have shorter calculus-based solutions.
What is the Format of the F=ma exam?
A: 25 multiple-choice questions, 75 minutes long, no penalty for wrong answers, calculators allowed (no graphing/programmable).
